Kuan-Ying Lee

Graduate student

My name is Kuan-Ying Lee. Before starting my PhD journey at the University of Minnesota, I was a professional hydraulic engineer in Taiwan. I received my master’s degree at the National Taiwan University and my bachelor’s degree from the National Cheng Kung University. I enjoy the vivid and fantastic performance of aquatic ecosystems—the sophisticated mechanisms of the ecosystem appeal to me. Scientific knowledge is always a powerful tool to reveal intricate phenomena, and I have pursued this knowledge since my graduate studies. Currently, my research focuses on the settlement velocity of flocculated sediment particles with biofilm patches. The research project will mainly use an annular flume to simulate different flow conditions that would trigger biofilm patches and sediment flocculation. In addition to research, I enjoy watching baseball games and traveling during my leisure time. It is also a great pleasure to discuss and collaborate with group mates and SAFL members.
